Shishupal mountain, situated at a distance of about 26 Km from saraipali in Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh, is a beautiful mountain range also known as the Budha Dongar. Dongar means mountain. The area of the mountain is 10Km. Its highest peak is called Kshemakhuti.

The view of Ghodadhar Falls located in the eastern part of the mountain thrills every tourist. A waterfall falling from a height of about 11 hundred feet forms a huge waterfall. The Shiva temple situated on the top of the mountain is the main centre of faith. Every year a fair is held here on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and Mahashivaratri. Thousands of devotees gather at this fair.

A nursery has been prepared by the Forest Department near Pujaripali, which can be developed further into an attractive place to visit. The palace of the Bastipali Jagatvanshi kings settled in the foothills is still recounting the glorious saga of its past as ruins. Shishupal Parvat has been important not only from a natural point of view, but also from a strategic point of view because this mountain can be climbed from only two places.

In the rainy season, the sight of mountain valleys is thrilling. Especially the view near Ghodadhar is just spectacular. The murmur of the waterfall thrills the visitors. A feature of Shishupal mountain is that it does not have a peak, but spreads out as a flat plateau. 

 

The topography (sharp slope) remains around the mountain. When the sun's rays fall on this ridge, the glittering rocks make this mountain even more beautiful. This mountain still remains a subject of research for geographers today but needs to be identified and explored.

How to reach:

Take a rented vehicle from Raipur and move on to NH6. Shishupal Mountains is approx 130 Km from Raipur. You can start your journey early morning and return back by evening.
