Dooars

Dooars - A land of natural wonders!

Dooars

Dooars is one of the last areas in the country where nature is so generous with its greenery. The River Teesta and its several tributaries cut through the endless stretch of natural forest. Beautiful motorable roads cut through dense forests rich in wildlife, and lavender hills rise at the end of graceful plains, looking like molten silver against the evening sun. The forest has the appearance of strange birds singing in it. The grooves' melody encourages you to let go of the urban sophistries you've carefully nurtured. A joyous twilight will bid you retire in the snug comfort of elegant log cabins after a day's adventure through the magnificent terrain, and leave for you a million dreams of the glorious morrow that is the Dooars. A land that showers you with natural wonders.

The Dooars is a region with a lot of variety. Because of its vast size, the terrain, weather, and beauty differ dramatically from one location to the next. The splendour of the hills, rivers, and forests attracts visitors to this location. Here in the winter, the temperature drops quickly. The mornings and evenings are nice in the summer, but the noon and early afternoon hours, especially near the sandy riverbeds, are blisteringly hot.

Rainfall is plentiful, allowing the trees to reach their maximum capacity and length, generating a canopy. Because of the outstanding road conditions, it is also one of the best monsoon destinations in the state. After a tiring metropolitan existence, the ecstatic beauty of the eye-soothing verdure forest and the pleasant melody of the birds will provide you with the inner peace and tranquillity you crave.

The gorgeous mountains, various flora and wildlife, tea gardens, perpetual and energetic springs, sandy river banks, and broad expanses of grassland are all attractions of Dooars tourism. Several colonial-era heritage buildings may be found in this area, particularly near the tea gardens.

They are strategically placed to provide a beautiful perspective of the surrounding gardens, hills, and riverbeds. If you're looking to satisfy your wanderlust, the Dooars is a must-see destination.

Relax under the stars in front of a bonfire after a day of sightseeing, or watch the sunrise from the balcony of your hotel with a cup of tea in your hand- Dooars provides a variety of options.

Wild Life in Dooars

If you enjoy exploring wildlife and photographing them in their natural habitat, the Dooars forests are the place for you. There are numerous interesting spots to visit in the Dooars to experience the natural splendour. Jaldapara and Gorumara National Parks and the Buxa Tiger Reserve are the principal forest regions in this region. These areas are teeming with wildlife.

When you go on safari, you can readily spot the enormous rhinos and elephants in this area. Jeep safaris are speedier, while elephant safaris allow you to get up close and personal with exotic animals. Deer, pythons, turtles, peacocks, Drongos, Indian pied hornbills, and other animals and birds are also frequent.

Within the woodland core region, there are various watchtowers. From there, you may observe wildlife without disturbing them. This experience, however, would require prior clearance from the forest service. When combined with the salt pits, these locations provide a fantastic opportunity to witness herds of gorgeous creatures.

If you want privacy and natural beauty, tourism in the Jayanti forest and hill area would be ideal for you. The "Queen of the Dooars," a part of the Buxa tiger reserve with views of Bhutan hills and a picturesque stream, is known as the "Queen of the Dooars."

Dooars Sight Seeing

There are many wonderful locations to visit in the Dooars, and visiting all of them in a single trip would take more than a month. Below is a list of the main places to visit in Dooars, along with a map to help you get a better picture of the area:

dooars

Gorumara and Lataguri

It is one of the most popular and congested tourist destinations. Lataguri serves as the entrance to Gorumara National Park, which is known for its rhinoceros and elephant population. Murti, a less busy but beautiful entry point to the national park, is another option.

Madarihat and Jaldapara

Jaldapara National Park, with its extensive grasslands and riverside woodlands, is another national park in this area. Aside from the Rhino and Elephant, it is home to several endangered faunal species. Birds such as the Bengal Florican, Crested Eagle, Fishing Eagle, Pied Hornbill, and others can be found here. Madarihat is a small town that serves as the park's entrance.

You can also go to the Chilapata forest, which is close by. The ruin of an ancient castle known as "NalrajaGarh" is the main attraction here. In this area, you might encounter Indian Bison and leopards if you're lucky.

Near Garumara National Park, Lataguri is the closest tiny tourist strip. Here you can find private resorts and accommodations. Tourists staying in Lataguri can visit Garumara throughout the day.

Permission to access the National Park for the day can be obtained from the Nature Interpretation Centre, Department of Forest, West Bengal Government, Lataguri.

Buxa Tiger Reserve

Distance from Siliguri is 175 kilometres. The name "Buxa Tiger" is derived from Buxa Fort ('Buxa Duar' - a fort in the Sinchula Range at an altitude of 867 metres guarding the most important of the eleven routes into Bhutan), which was formerly used for detainees during India's liberation movement. Rajabhatkhawa, Nimati, Barobisha, Rydak, Raimatang Jainti, Buxaduar, and Bhutanghat are all part of this Tiger Reserve. Sankosh, Raidak, Jayanti, Churnia, Turturi, Phashkhawa, Dima, and Nonani are the major rivers. The Tiger Reserve covers 759 square kilometres, with a core area of 331 square kilometres. Buxa Tiger Reserve was established in 1982-83 and was later designated as a National Park in January of 1992.

It is a quiet spot in the Jaldapara National Park area, located on the banks of the Shisamara River. It is ideal for those who enjoy nature and wildlife. The location is free of the noise and pollution of city life, and it also provides the opportunity to watch rhinos up close.

Chapramari

It is a part of Gorumara National Park that is separated from it by the Murti River. Because of its floral and faunal diversity, it is one of the region's oldest reserve areas. You may embark on a Jeep Safari to the watchtower from here.

How to reach Dooars (Garumara, Buxa and Jaldapara)

By Air:

Bagdogra is the closest airport to Dooars. Bagdogra airport is a hub for flights from all across India. You must take a prepaid cab from the prepaid taxi counter located in the arrival area once you arrive at Bagdogra airport. Prepaid taxis are available for both Grumara National Park (Lataguri, Murti, etc.) and Jaldapara.

There is no shared taxi or bus service available at Bagdogra Airport; if you want to take a bus, go to Siliguri's PC Mittal bus stand, where buses depart for the Dooars via sevoke Road, or to Siliguri's Tenzing Norway central bus terminal, where buses depart for Jalpaiguri, where you must change buses. However, unless your flight times coincide with the bus departure times, this mode of transportation is not feasible.

Dooars tour operators and private hotels can also arrange for airport pickup and drop-off, as well as provide you with a dedicated vehicle for your Dooars trip.

By Train:

There are only a few trains that can bring you directly to us from other parts of India. Kanchankanya Express is a popular train that departs from Kolkata (Sealdah Station) every day at 10:30 p.m. and arrives in Malbazar the next morning at 9:20 a.m. via NJP. The train, on the other hand, continues to destinations such as Hasimara and Alipurduar.

If you want to go to Gorumara National Park first, get off at New Mal Junction (which is the station for Malbazar) and take a taxi to Murti (17 km, 30 minutes). There are also bus services from Malbazar to Lataguri and Murti regions.

You should get off at Hasimara for Jaldapara. Jaldapara National Park is 11 kilometres from Hasimara station and takes only 15 minutes by cab; for Buxa Tiger Reserve, get off at Alipurdwar, the Kanchankanya Express terminal station. Rajabhatkhawa is 11 kilometres from Alipurdwar and takes about 15 minutes to get by cab.

If you are unable to locate a train that runs directly to your area in the Dooars, the next best alternative (which is used by the bulk of tourists from all over India) is to travel to NJP or New Jalpaiguri. Many trains travel through NJP, which is an important railway hub.

There is a prepaid cab counter just outside the NGP Railway platforms and within the station grounds where you may receive prepaid taxes for Murti Latagudi, Jaldapara, and Buxar. The prepaid taxi counter is typically open from 7 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. If the counter is closed when you arrive, you will need to negotiate the fare with other private taxis at NJP station.
